Why Should You Use All-Natural Weed Control?

Updated: Jan 16, 2023

I am the founder and owner of an all-natural mosquito, flea and tick control company in Pinehurst, North Carolina. We have customers that are very adamant about all natural products being used on their properties, and we agree. Too often when we assess the properties for issues, we find all sorts of toxic weed killer products around the property. Our customers, and society as a whole, are not aware of the dangers and risk involved with the toxic chemicals in most weed and grass killers. These chemicals are far more dangerous than the industry standard pesticides normally used by most pest control companies.

The two most common chemicals that are controversial are glyphosate and dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2, 4-D). “Researchers have observed apparent links between exposure to 2, 4-D, and non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, a blood cancer and sarcoma , soft-tissue cancer (Sedbrook, 2016)”. There were also evidence that 2, D-4 impeades the normal acrion of estrogen, androgen, decreased fertility and increased birth defects (Sedbrook, 2016). Studies suggest that over exposure by humans to glyphosate can be linked to Increased risk of the blood cancer known as non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, Kidney Disease, and Shortened Pregnancy. Animal lab studies discovered that glyphosate can also be linked to endocrine disruption, DNA damage, Decreased sperm function, Disruption of the gut microbiome, and fatty liver disease.

The two quotes below are very concerning and demonstrate that over 50% of the products sold at Lowes and Home Depot contains toxic chemicals and the harmful effects those chemicals are on our pollinators.

“Glyphosate is not the only concerning chemical on the companies’ shelves. The analysis shows that half of all herbicide products offered by Home Depot (24 of 51) and Lowe’s (23 of 40) contain highly hazardous ingredients — such as 2,4-D, diquat and mecoprop — that are linked to cancer, neurotoxicity, reproductive disorders and other serious health problems (Boden, Clapham, and Spees, 2021).”

“A recent report from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency found that glyphosate can injure or kill 93 percent of U.S. endangered species. Researchers also have found that glyphosate can impede the growth of bee larvae and impair bees’ ability to navigate and find food, among other impacts. Additionally, one new study found that Roundup kills bees outright (Boden, Clapham, and Spees, 2021).”

Zapper Mosquito Control recently started a subcompany under the main corporation called Zapper Outdoor Barrier Protection and Weed Control. We are now providing all-natural outdoor barrier protection and deterrence for wasp, spiders, roaches and other pesky insects and a non toxic, all natural weed and grass control service. We believe this is important for our environment and our community. Being able to educate the community on the harmful chemicals in your average weed control product and their effects while providing an alternate solution that is affordable is part of our company’s culture and makes us glad we are able to provide the service.
